’01 Kia Grinding Noise

I have a 2001 Kia Sportage. About 100,000 miles. It just started making a grinding sound when I take my foot off of the gas pedal. It makes this sound even if I do not touch the brake pedal. When I do start braking it will continue this grinding sound until I am almost stopped then will make a loud “thud” and stop grinding. I had my brakes done about 3 months ago and had the transfer case replaced 2 months ago.

tapping noise from top of engine After timing belt was replaced

Hi- I need help! DESPERATELY! I own a 2001 Kia sportage- base model- 2.0L- 4 cyl- DOHC engine. about 98k miles on it and some what mechanically inclined.
Purchased it used- Changed the oil- replaced the thermostat. I was driving and the engine stopped- NO noise when it stopped and I figured it was the timing belt- had it towed to a local garage. There was about 4 -6 teeth missing. They replaced the belt and said it started right up- nice and quiet- ran for a little bit(no clue how long they ran it) BUT… I go to pick it up and starts up- but I notice alittle tapping noise- I go in- ask the shop- they said she was quiet- ok- maybe it was because it was cold. I drove to the bank(aprox 10 miles) the noise got LOUDER- you could hear the belt slipping or spinning… my poor little kia sounds like a “generator or sewing machine”. People look @ me like I have NO oil in it. The oil and temp is fine- I took it back to the shop and they said the timing is “FINE”- they took off the head- there is enough “clearance” and Nothing is touching- they are stumped(not great mechanics- but NOW I find out..ughh). What could cause the engine NOW after running quiet to sound like this? Is this an interference engine? did I do damage to it? OH- they did tell me- when they turn the crank shaft by hand- you can hear the noise!? HELP! I live in the country and a single mom with little $$$ and an active son in sports and scouts- I NEED MY CAR:( and really like the gas mileage… HELP- almost 2 wks with NO car!!!

2002 impala 3.8

just had my cat replaced on my 02′ impala (3.8). ever since then it’s been making this weird noise, like a crappy exhaust system. best way to describe it is, it sounds like someone blowing in the top of a milk jug. it only does it when the car is idle, first accelerating, and cruising at about 60 mph. also, doesn’t do it in correlation to moving the steering wheel, so not likely bearings. please help!

Ford Transit mini bus 1994 has developed knocking noise from engine.

Hi, my Ford transit has developed a new irregular “knocking” noise from the engine. Could it be the engine mountings? It is 1994 SWB model.

2002 Suburban throttle whine

I hear a high pitched whine or squeal when pressing the throttle. Even the very slightest pressure will create this noise. With the throttle held constant I also hear the noise as the car shifts gears. The noise is a very short duration. I do not think it is a belt or bearing noise. Any ideas? Thanks.

Bong!!

Hello.  Ive been hearing loud “bong” sounds from under my car, off and on, for about 6 months now.  They occur when i drive in dips, over bumps, and on the occasional turn.  Cold weather seems to make it worse.  Sometimes the sound comes from the front, but i hear them mostly in the back.  I was wondering if this could be a sign of worn shocks and/or struts.  If not what could it be?

STRANGE Drive Train Noise – Infiniti G20 – 1999

1999 Infiniti G20. 145,000 miles. Auto trans. This problem just started recently. As you accelerate a humming noise increases in pitch throughout acceleration. It sounds like when you pass a large 4WD truck with monster tread tires…that whirring, humming sound. It does not happen while in neutral while stationary and revving the engine, so I know it’s not an engine bearing – only while on the road while moving. It does happen while coasting in neutral at speed. The trans also shifts perfectly so I don’t think it’s involved and the tire pressure is correct ,so I put it up on blocks and got underneath. It appears to be coming from down near the transmission/differential or axles. But this car had both axles replaced less than a year ago. Originally, I thought it might be the wheel bearings. But when I lifted the car and wiggled the wheels, I found no play and the noise seemed to be coming from farther in than at the area where the wheel bearings would be. It was there even while spinning the wheels freely by hand while on the lift. I think this car has a differential bearing and wonder about that or maybe it’s the wheel bearings and I just didn’t hear the location correctly. Or maybe the axles were done wrong…? Can anybody help me identify this problem? Thanks! – JL

Chevy Aveo Engine problem

I hired a mechanic to replace the timing belt on a 2005 Chevy Aveo. As he was testing it, the timing belt slipped and caused damage to the valves. A machine shop repaired the valve damage. After putting together the engine the car started making a rattling noise, and the car wouldn’t idle properly. When we raise the RPMs the rattling noise goes away and the engine seems to work fine. We identified the rattle noise coming from the PVC valve area and we changed it. We performed idle relearn. We checked all the hoses for leak, but still no luck. We are getting an error code P2279 air intake leak. The mechanic at this point told me that he is stumped and doesn’t know what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

2001 Olds Aurora

BRAKE HELP

My brakes make a horrible a screeching noise with light pressure on the brake. They’ve been inspected several times and I ‘m told my brakes are fine. I’m told the thickness of the brake pads is fine. They’ve blown off “dust” which didn’t improve anything. I’m told they can cut the rotor but you can only get one cut from a rotor. I can have new brakes installed but if I’m told my brakes are fine…why would I have new ones put on? I’m at a loss on how to remedy this situation. This is a new vehicle. Brake noise started at 8,000 miles. It’s a 2009 JEEP Grand Cherokee.
