1968 Mustang – key wont cut off motor after new alternator installed

Yes, it still has an external voltage regulator, but no, didnt change it.

Should I do that?

Just replaced the alternator and now I can’t get the key to shut off the motor! I had to disconnect the battery to shut the car off. Help please!

Motor is 289

  1. This sounds like a good one. Would be much easier if I was looking at it, but will try to give you some things to check.

First I would like to know if this car still has an external voltage regulator or if it has been updated?

If it still has an external regulator, did you replace it as well?

  2. I have sent you an email containing a wiring diagram for your vehicle. You will need to double check your connections from the ignition switch and if all are correct, the repair would be to install a new ignition switch.
