I have a 1999 Ford Ranger, 3.0L V6, Automatic. Yesterday, ran fine. Today, first drive of the day, “abs” lite came on followed by flashing “O/D off” lite. Slow to change from 1st to 2nd gear. Speedometer doesn’t register and “check engine” lite illuminated. Any ideas?
The good news is, the check engine light came on. This means that a sensor that your vehicles computer monitors has failed or gone out of range. This is good because it is more likely that you have a failing engine sensor instead of a mechanical issue.
You now have the ability to have the computer codes scanned to help guide you to the problem causing sensor.
If I had to guess, I would look at the VSS – Vehicle Speed Sensor.
This directly effects the speedometer, and if the computer doesn’t know how fast your going it would have a hard time knowing when to shift or work the ABS properly.
