1998 Subaru Outback AWD

my Subaru makes a thumping noise in the rt front end.  I have replaced the ball joint but that made no difference.  Tie rod is worn but looks OK .   what else could it be? what causes rt front end thumping noise?

  1. Difficult to diagnose a noise without hearing it but this article should help: http://www.freeautomechanic.com/auto-repair.html

You could have a bad brake rotor, sticking caliper, BAD CV_SHAFT(most common) a bad tire with a slipped belt, you should feel it in the steering wheel if this is the case. Put it on 4 jack stands and have someone put it in gear and you listen. Does it happen with or without turning? does it happen with or without braking, or does it not happen at all on jack stands but only when driving and hitting a bump in the road? this should help narrow down what it could be.
