1995 Silverado 1500 5.7 engine

I recently had my fuel pump replaced, I had not had my truck tuned up, I replaced the plugs, wires, rotor and cap. My truck runs rough and the plugs are clogged with sut, what is wrong and what can I do to fix it

  1. I first would wonder if the engine was running rougher before or after you tuned it up?

If it is now running worse since you touched it, I would recheck your work. Timing is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. check your wires are not crossed. Check to make sure the spark plug gap is not closed on the spark plugs.

If it is running better or the same, the problem could be elsewhere. First thing to do would be to pull any engine codes and post them back here in the comments below and we will help further.

You will need a Scan Tool to do it yourself or stop by one of your local parts house as most offer this for free.

The black soot is caused from the engine running in a Rich condition. This can be from vacuum leaks, either from hoses or gasket failure. This can also be caused by sensor failure, clogged egr, etc.
