Sounds about right. If the intake manifold is cracked(common) or if the intake manifold gasket has failed, the coolant will get into the cylinders and try to be burned along with the fuel. This will create white smoke that will be coming from the exhaust. I will also note that is the cooling system has a leak(blown gasket) it will overheat form loss of coolant and not having the ability to build pressure properly.
