1998 Chevy Malibu

I took my car to the shop last week to change the water pump. I got it back two day ago, and when I tried to leave for work this morning the car wouldn’t start. Several hours later I tried to start it again and it started right up. However I heard a slight noise around the serpentine belt so I popped the hood, with the vehicle still running. As soon as I grabbed the prop rod, I got a shock that I felt in my arm for the next half hour. Is this an installation issue? I’m worried about running the car with random electric currents running through it. Any suggestions before I take it back to the shop? I want as much information as possible before I return it.

  1. First I have ever heard of any one getting a shock from a prop rod. In fact first I have ever heard of any one getting shocked from a 12volt DC system. Not going to be much help for you there.

    As for the no start:
    1. Did all the dash lights come on and everything was normal and just nothing happened when you hit the key?…. this would usually happen if the car was not in park.
    2. Did you hear one click and nothing happened?… this is usually a failing starter and would be common for it to go ahead and start intermittently.
    3. Did you hear several clicks when trying to start?… this would indicate a dead battery.
    4. No dash lights and nothing when trying to start would indicate a bad connection at the battery.
    5. the engine cranked over with no problem but would not start?…. may have been flooded but would require finding out if it had no spark or no fuel.
