  1. Yes, the factory has a Rev limiter to keep customers from over revving the engine and blowing it up. If it has been modified with an after market chip or ignition box, it could be changed. MSD 7al has the ability to put different rev limiter chips in it to raise or lower the number. Most 5.0 engines do not need to rev any higher than 6,000 rpm as it is no longer producing more horsepower. Shifting at 5,500 would probably get you a quicker 1/4 mile time anyway.
