One click is usually a bad starter or loose connection at the battery. However a loose connection is also accompanied with dash lights going out. A bunch of repeating clicks would indicate a bad or weak battery. Since you are experiencing one click and sometimes it starts and others it doesn’t, a starter replacement would be right course of action.
