Oil Overfilled Chrysler Concorde 1997

1997 Chrysler ConcordeEngine oil overfilled and driven, having problems now. How bad is this? And can this be fixed.

RESPONSE

Not that bad. Much better than if it was under filled. Yes, it can be fixed. Drain the oil and refill to the correct level. Engine oil is to checked on a flat surface with the engine off.

CHECKING ENGINE OIL LEVEL

The best time to check engine oil level is after it has sat overnight, or if the engine has been running, allow the engine to be shut off for at least 5 minutes before checking oil level.

Checking the oil while the vehicle is on level ground will improve the accuracy of the oil level reading. Add only when the level is at or below the ADD mark.

ENGINE LUBRICATION SYSTEM

The lubrication system is a full flow filtration pressure feed type. Oil, stored in the oil pan, is taken in and discharged by a gerotor type oil pump directly coupled to the crankshaft and its pressure is regulated by a relief valve. The oil is fed through an oil filter and to the crankshaft journals from the oil gallery in the cylinder block. This gallery also feeds oil under pressure to the cylinder heads. It then flows to each cylinder head through passages to camshaft journals, the rocker shafts to the rocker arms, hydraulic lash adjusters
