What is a Slosh Module?

Slosh Module

I had a fuel gauge problem it only worked every now and then it was a disconnected wire at sending unit causing the problem. The problem is before I found this out I started at the slosh module bypassing it this didn’t solve the problem. I next replaced the sending unit assembly this is when I found the loose wire. After installing the unit the gauge now pegs past full I removed the bypass from slosh module and it pegged past empty, when I reinstalled the slosh module it pegged past full again. Should I try re-calibrating the gauge or something else?

Sounds like you may have it wired up wrong or the gauge wiring is crossed or shorted. Also the sending unit may be sticking or stuck unless the gas tank is completely empty. If you comment below what the year, make and model are we could look up the wiring diagram and dig a little deeper.

Slosh Module

What is a slosh module? It took me over 30 years as a mechanic before I first heard of a slosh module. So don’t fret if you haven’t heard of it. It is more of an anti-slosh module. The module is located in the back of the instrument panel in the dash board. It is a circuit board that dampens the signal from the fuel level sensor in the gas tank to the fuel gauge in your dash panel. If the module goes bad the fuel gauge needle will bounce around. It will even move around when you take a turn, climb a hill or brake.
