have a Toyota Allion 2008 model with a 2nz engine i recently replaced the battery and did service (oil, air filter oil filter, and plugs) but the car cannot start on the first kick. it had issues with overheating i replaced the radiator recently but when i travel for long distance it fills the coolant in the coolant reserve what could be the problem and solution in the two issues
My first thought about the not starting on the first kick would be fuel related issue causing that. As for the overheating and filling the coolant reservoir I am thinking blown head gasket or stuck thermostat or Air pocket still in the system.
Blown Head Gasket Symptoms Explained
Utilizing a fuel pressure gauge you can see if fuel is bleeding off pressure. A quick test you can try would be to cycle the ignition key “ON” and “OFF” holding in the “ON” position for 3 seconds. Do this 10 times and then move the ignition key to the “START” position. If it starts right off, you have confirmed it is a fuel related issue.
As for the overheating coolant filling the reservoir issue. You can check you thermostat is opening by making sure the upper and lower radiator hoses are hott. To be certain of the exact temperature you can use an Infrared Temperature Gun. A compression test is needed to determine if there is a blown head gasket.
