I keep getting a check engine light when the outside temp gets over 100+ degrees. Used a code scanner and didn’t find much… gave an error code P0D20 which is pretty much meaningless as far as I can tell. I think it is just a model code or something, not a real error code. My guess it is an over temperature issue with the battery pack. It is a 2019 Ford Fusion Titanium Plug In Hybrid
Your thinking seems sound to me. Have you taken it back to the dealership yet? I would think this vehicle should still be covered under warranty. Not to familiar with the charger warranty though. Your vehicles PCM monitors the battery charger high-voltage output and current output to make sure they are in proper range. The charger works in constant current or constant voltage mode. Something is off and setting the code. Usually happens when the chargers high output voltage is less than expected.
Ford Code P0D20 – Battery Charger Output Voltage Performance
Code P0D20 Probable Causes
- Faulty Battery Charger
- Battery Charger harness is open or shorted
- Battery Charger circuit poor electrical connection
All these dealerships are backed up for over a month to get repairs done. (Took me over 3 months and 3 repair visits to get my 2021 F-150 cameras working…) Ours appointment is in Mid August. They did say if it keeps doing it, to call them again. I don’t care when they fix it or if it blows up in the mean time. Its under warranty, so it will get fixed one way or the other. Doesn’t bother me that the light comes on, it still runs just fine. Fine on electric and fine on gasoline, so I don’t really care.
The battery charger works just fine… its a stage 2 charger 240V 30 Amp. It charges just fine with no issues or errors. I just get the check engine light when it gets really hot outside. But it still works on electric just fine… gasoline too. Hey, thanks for your help. I’ll drop you a line when they fix it and let you know what it was.
