Any Check engine lights on? Any Trouble Codes present? These would aid in diagnosing any current issue you are having.

Smoke coming out of the tailpipe is not a good sign. The color of the smoke or smell would also offer some assistance in diagnosing the issue. For example, a sweet smell accompanied by white smoke would indicate coolant being burned and possibly a blown head gasket. This is often caused by overheating of the engine. A rotten egg smell with dark smoke would indicate a rich fuel burn condition which is often time caused from a vacuum leak. Blue smoke would indicate excessive oil burning generally caused from internal engine wear or damage.
