My 2010 mustang base model, won’t turn over, I get code P0100. When I turn the ignition she starts as normal but that split second where she would turn over she turns off instead.
Ford Code P0100
Mass Air Flow Circuit
Code P0100 Possible Causes
- Faulty MAF Sensor
- Unplugged MAF sensor
- Damaged wiring
- Loose or corroded terminals in the MAF circuit
- Air intake disconnected at MAF Sensor
MAF Circuit Description
The Mass Air Flow Sensor measures the mass of air flowing into the engine. The MAF sensor output signal is used by the PCM to calculate fuel injector pulse width.
Diagnosis and Repair
One of the first things I like to check is anything that I have recently worked on. For example if you have just replaced the air filter, odds are the intake hose clamp is loose or it is not connected anymore allowing a large vacuum leak. The next thing would be check the wiring harness and connector to make certain the MAF is plugged in and there is no damage to the wiring harness. Once that all checks out it is time to clean the MAF Sensor and see if that takes care of the issue. This should be done with MAF Sensor Cleaner and NOT carburetor or brake cleaner. Anything else may cause damage that will ensure having to buy a new sensor.
In order to clean the MAF Sensor, first unplug the electrical connection. Then remove the two Safety Torx bolts and lift. Then spray the thin wire being careful not to touch it with anything. Not even a q-tip or it may break.
If the code keeps coming back once it has been erased from the PCM bank, it’s likely that the MAF itself is in need of replacement.
Replace MAF Sensor
If you need to replace the sensor they are readily available for a little over $30. And just require the removal ove the two Safety Torx bolts and the electrical connection just like when cleaning it. I looked this one up for you and made sure it would fit the 2010 Ford Mustang Base Model with the 4.0L V6 engine.
