I completely submerged it in water. Can it be saved?
Yes. Dry it out in a heated garage and change the engine, transmission, transfer case and both differentials fluids. You may also need to test your fuel to see if it got contaminated. The engine coolant, power steering and brake fluids should be fine as they are in a sealed system.
DRIVE AXLE ASSEMBLY DRAIN & REFILL
FRONT AXLE
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove fill plug.
- Position suitable container under differential.
- Remove differential housing cover and drain oil from housing.
- Clean housing cavity with flushing oil, light engine oil, or lint free cloth. Do not use water, steam, kerosene, or gasoline for cleaning.
- Remove original sealant from housing and cover surfaces.
- Apply a bead of MOPAR® silicone rubber sealant, or equivalent, to housing cover. Install housing cover within five minutes of applying sealant.
- Install housing cover and any identification tag. Torque bolts to 30 ft. lbs.
- Fill differential with correct amount of specified oils.
- Install fill plug and torque to 25 ft. lbs.
- Lower vehicle.
REAR AXLE
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove fill plug.
- Position suitable container under differential.
- Remove differential housing cover and drain oil from housing.
- Clean housing cavity with flushing oil, light engine oil, or lint free cloth. Do not use water, steam, kerosene, or gasoline for cleaning.
- Remove original sealant from housing and cover surfaces.
- Apply a bead of MOPAR® silicone rubber sealant, or equivalent, to housing cover. Install housing cover within five minutes of applying sealant.
- Install housing cover and any identification tag. Torque bolts to 30 ft. lbs.
- Fill differential with correct amount of specified oils.
- Install fill plug.
- Lower vehicle.
- Differentials equipped with trac-lok should be tested by making 10 to 12 slow figure eight turns.
