Honda Accord Coupe Frame Measurement

honda accord

Can you obtain an accurate frame measurement with out removing the muffler? If you don’t remove it and it is out of specs in that location does that mean there is no frame damage? I had my frame measured after accident and body shop told me it was only out of spec because they placed the magnets in a diff location and the frame is fine. I don’t feel like they are being honest with me

Measuring a car frame is essential for assessing its integrity and identifying any damage. Here are some methods you can use to measure a car frame:

  1. Front-to-Rear Measurement:
    • This is a straightforward method. Measure from the front left farthest point to the right rear farthest point, and then repeat from the front right to the left rear. Compare these measurements. If they are equal, the frame is likely square.
    • Alternatively, you can measure from a point on the left and right of the front axle to a dot on the transmission (which is at a distance equal to half the frame length). Adjust until both measurements match.
  2. Using Basic Tools:
    • You’ll need a tape measure and a spirit level.
    • Follow these steps:
      • Take measurements from different points on your car using the tape measure.
      • Ensure that the measurements are consistent.
      • Use the spirit level to check if the frame is level and not leaning anywhere.
  3. Home Measurement System (for unibody, full-frame vehicles, trucks, and classic cars):
    • Watch this video tutorial by Auto Body Training Solutions on how to measure a vehicle frame at home. The system uses basic tools you may already have, such as a plumb bob, tape measure, coat hanger, paper clip, and tape.
    • The video covers measuring the frame for lengthdiamondside sway, and height, as well as finding the center line of the frame. It also explains the advantages and disadvantages of this method.

Remember that precise measurements are crucial for assessing frame damage or ensuring that a frame is in good condition. If you suspect any issues, consider consulting a professional mechanic or body shop for a thorough inspection.
