How to reset check engine light 2009 HYUNDAI ACCENT GLS

Hyundai Accent

How can I safely and easily reset my check engine light? I know why it’s on and the problem is not serious.

The check engine light can be reset but will once again illuminate for the same reason it is on now. This will continue until you repair the reason the light is on in the first place.

1995-2018 ACCENT

Check Engine/MIL lamp will be illuminated for approximately five seconds when ignition switch is placed in ON position without starting engine. When engine is started, lamp should go out. If it remains lit, a DTC has been stored by electronic control system. On models without OBD II, after diagnosis and repair are complete, place ignition switch in OFF position, then clear DTCs by disconnecting battery ground cable or ECM connector for at least 15 seconds. On models equipped with OBD II, following diagnosis and repair of system, lamp may be turned off using a suitable scan tool. Follow tool manufacturer instructions.

On some models equipped with OBD II, MIL will also illuminate if fuel tank filler cap is not properly tightened. Tighten fuel tank filler cap until it clicks.

On some models equipped with OBD II, if a misfire condition which may cause damage to catalytic converter is present, Check Engine lamp will flash once per second until vehicle operation is outside speed and load range causing misfire. Lamp will stop flashing and remain steady.
