What you have done is commonly referred to as a “Neutral Drop”. And in most cases after just a few times of doing this will cause damage to the transmission.
If you are thinking the transmission isn’t the issue, you may want to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnect it and test it again just to see if you didn’t just upset the computer.
