I was driving and I pressed my clutch to shitf and it just stayed sunk in so idk what it is could it be that I need clutch fluids? It goes into gear n everything it just doesn’t go
SLAVE CYLINDER, REPLACE
- Remove cap on brake fluid tank and float housing, then siphon brake fluid into tank until level is at connection for filler pipe.
- Remove clutch release cylinder bolts from transmission, then cylinder.
- Reverse procedure to install. Bleed clutch hydraulic system.
HYDRAULIC CLUTCH SYSTEM, BLEED
- Connect bleeder to brake fluid tank.
- Remove bleeder screw on clutch release cylinder to release trapped air.
- Depress clutch pedal several times.
- Maintain level of brake fluid in tank while bleeding.
- If air is in system after repeating bleeding procedure, remove release cylinder from transmission.
- Press pushrod against stop in release cylinder and release slowly. Do not operate clutch pedal when slave cylinder is removed.
CLUTCH ASSEMBLY, REPLACE
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
On models with Automatic Speed Control and Traction Control (ASC+T), it may be required to remove throttle body to avoid damage when removing clutch assembly.
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Remove exhaust system.
- Remove heat shield and exhaust mounting brackets.
- Remove driveshaft front joint disc to transmission bolts. To prevent propeller shaft vibration do not apply twisting force to flange when removing nuts from bolts.
- Remove driveshaft sliding joint gland nut several turns, using BMW removal tool No. 26 1 040, or equivalent.
- Remove center mount bolts, then bend driveshaft down onto center mount and pull off of centering pin on transmission final drive. Do not allow driveshaft to over flex at joints during removal, as damage to joint boots may result.
- Suspend driveshaft from vehicle with wire.
- Pull off shifter connection retainer and washer, then remove shift rod.
- Leaving hydraulic lines connected, remove clutch release cylinder and position aside.
- Disconnect backup lamp switch electrical connector.
- Remove oxygen sensor plug holder.
- On 318, M3 and Z3 models, proceed as follows
a. Remove air collection box, then remove electric wire duct from rear of engine.
b. Support rear of engine using a suitable jack and wooden block, then remove crossmember bolts. Install BMW engine support tool No. 00 0 200, or equivalent, to crankcase lifting eye.
c. Install BMW engine support tool No. 00 0 200, or equivalent, to crankcase lifting eye.
d. Tighten tool spindle to support weight of engine. - On 325 models, proceed as follows:
a. Remove air collection box, then injection pipe cover.
b. Support rear of engine using a suitable jack and wooden block, then remove crossmember bolts.
c. Install BMW engine support tool No. 11 0 030, or equivalent, through intake manifold into holder on crankcase.
d. Install BMW engine support tool No. 00 0 200, or equivalent, to engine and tighten spindle to support weight of engine. - On all models, attach BMW tool No. 11 8 022, or equivalent, to left and right control arms. Position tool so that engine oil pan rests securely on special tool.
- Remove crossmember with rubber mounts. Lower transmission by turning spindle. Ensure there is no contact with engine compartment wall or heater connections.
- Remove transmission to engine mounting Torx bolts, then transmission.
- Remove clutch housing dust cover.
- Remove clutch housing.
- Lock flywheel with BMW holder tool No. 11 2 160, or equivalent. Remove pressure plate bolts 1 to 11/2 turns at a time until tension is released.
- Remove bolts, pressure plate and clutch disc, Fig. 1.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Align clutch disc with BMW alignment tool No. 21 2 100, or equivalent.
b. Apply a light coating of Molykote GL261 grease to transmission input shaft splines. Also apply grease to release bearing and for at locations (F, L and N), Fig. 2.
c. Tighten driveshaft gland nut, then preload center bearing .157-.235 inch toward front of vehicle before tightening center bearing retaining bolts.
d. Ensure transmission is centered to crossmember.
e. Ensure Torx type transmission to engine bolts are installed with a washer.
f. Ensure engine to transmission alignment dowels are in good condition.
INSPECTION - Measure height of pressure plate fingers. If deviation is greater than .024 inch, pressure plate should be replaced.
- Inspect clutch disc for wear or cracks. Ensure sure torsional damper springs are tight and inspect lateral runout.
- Inspect needle pilot bearing in crankshaft and inspect flywheel for cracks.
- Inspect pressure plate for cracks, loose rivets, wear, and burnt spots. Inspect flatness of pressure surface.
CLUTCH PEDAL, ADJUST
All models use a hydraulic clutch release mechanisms with automatic wear compensation. No clutch pedal adjustment is required.
