Why does ABS light come on sometimes when I’m driving on bare pavement? I have a 2005 Chevy Uplander.
ABS light comes on when on dry pavement
This is common when the front ABS speed sensors are located in the hub bearings. In your case the 2005 Chevy Uplander hub bearings have internal speed sensors.
What about the speed sensors
So with the speed sensors being located inside the hub bearing they tend to fail often. When the non-greaseable sealed hub bearings start to wear the metallic debris floats around and eventually builds up causing false signals from the speed sensor.
Whats the Fix?
The only fix for this situation that involves a failing hub bearing assembly is to replace it.
How to Replace the front hub bearing
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Disconnect wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
- Remove wheel speed sensor connector from bracket.
- Insert a suitable drift through brake rotor to prevent rotor from turning, then remove and discard driveshaft nut.
- Remove brake caliper and brake rotor.
- Attach front hub spindle remover tool No. J 28733-B, or equivalent, then push driveshaft out of hub and bearing assembly, Fig. 1.
- Remove and discard hub and bearing assembly attaching bolts.
- Remove hub and bearing assembly from steering knuckle.
Now after reading how to do it yourself all you need it the speacialty tool and you on your way to having it fixed. I looked the hub bearing removal tool up at Amazon if you would like to purchase one. Made sure there was free shipping also. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
