I have a 2006 jeep commander that is making a whirring/howling noise. From about 0 -25 the noise isn’t very prevalent but there is a noticeable rumble felt through the pedals from 25 up the noise gets more intense and loud, the vibration/rumble eases up slightly when turning left. Is it my driver side wheel bearing
Very well could be. Here is an article written covering this exact thing followed by replacement instructions from the manual.
WHEEL HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY R&R
FRONT
Support caliper, do not allow caliper hang by hose.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Remove half shaft hub/bearing nut.
- Remove disc brake caliper.
- Remove brake caliper adaptor (1), Fig. 2.
- Remove and discard O-ring and then remove disc brake rotor.
- Remove wheel speed sensor nut.
- Remove wheel speed sensor.
- Remove three hub bearing mounting bolts from back of steering knuckle. Remove hub bearing (3) from steering knuckle.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Guide half shaft into hub/bearing, install hub bearing to knuckle and torque three bolts to 85 ft. lbs.
b. Install half shaft hub/bearing nut and torque to 229 ft. lbs.
c. Install wheel speed sensor into hub and then install mounting bolt and torque to 106-124 in. lbs.
